Hold onto your shopping carts, because Costco, the retail giant that never stops surprising us, is now in the gold game!

Yes, you heard that right; you can now add 1-ounce gold PAMP Suisse Lady Fortuna Veriscan bars to your Costco shopping list. Who needs groceries when you can have gold?

Now, before you start imagining giant stacks of gold bars at your local store, there’s a twist. These gleaming treasures are exclusively available online, and only if you’re a card-carrying Costco member. Membership will set you back $60 to $120 a year, but hey, when you’re buying gold, who’s counting, right? Oh, and there’s a limit of two bars per member, so you can’t exactly build Fort Knox in your living room.

As for the price, well, you’ve got to be in the club to know the secret handshake. But word on the Reddit streets is that they were recently selling for just under $1,900 a pop. Not too shabby when the spot gold price is hovering around $1,876.56 an ounce.

Costco’s Chief Financial Officer, Richard Galanti, spilled the golden beans during a recent earnings call, saying, “I’ve gotten a couple of calls that people have seen online that we’ve been selling 1-ounce gold bars. Yes, but when we load them on the site, they’re typically gone within a few hours, and we limit two per member.”

Now, here’s the fun part. Gold bars at Costco seem to be the latest addition to their survivalist lineup. Yep, they’ve been stocking up on dried foods and emergency kits, clearly sensing that people are feeling a bit uncertain about the future.

Gold fits right into this self-sufficiency and “believe in your own currency” vibe. As Jonathan Rose, co-founder of Genesis Gold Group, puts it, “There is definitely a crossover of people living off the land, being self-sufficient, believing in your own currency. That’s the appeal to gold as a safe haven as people lose faith in the U.S. dollar.”

And let’s not forget, precious metals like gold have been on a wild ride, with a more than 15% increase in the past year and a whopping 55% surge in the past five years. With inflation, banking woes, and concerns in the real estate market, gold is like the wise old sage in the world of investments, offering a glimmer of stability.

So, there you have it, folks – a gold rush at Costco. Who knew your next treasure hunt would be in the same place you buy bulk toilet paper? 🛒💰✨
